It’s no secret that I really love good quality salt. I also really love onions and garlic. So naturally this onion salt is a winner in my book! And this is true even though I’m usually not a big fan of spice blends (I like to be able to control the amount of spices individually), but this one is just to good and versatile, to not keep on hand.
The spice blend adds great flavor to most dishes, but I especially like to use it in preparations of eggs, potatoes and vegetables.
Try adding some onion salt to the egg mixture next time you do scrambled eggs, toss it with olive oil drizzled carrots and potatoes before roasting them in the oven or try sprinkling it in sandwiches for extra flavor – it’s so good!
Actually one of my favorite things to eat during the summer months is Danish style open-faced rye bread sandwiches with either boiled new potatoes, flavorful tomatoes or sweet and crispy cucumber, mayo, raw or marinated red onions, chives and a generous sprinkle of onion salt – absolutely scrumptious!
If you want an extra flavorful spice blend try adding one or more to the onion salt
- red chili flakes
- sweet or smoked ground paprika
- dried oregano
- dried thyme
- ground turmeric
- dried chives
- dried lemon peel
